Cam Shriver will discuss the importance of this region to American
history immediately following the American Revolution. Why was the
area that became Butler County so filled with violence in the 1780s and
early 1790s? What were the stakes for the fighters involved?

Cam Shriver is a Senior Research Associate at the Myaamia Center at Miami
University. He earned his PhD in history from Ohio State. He studies the history of the Ohio valley, colonialism, and Myaamia experiences of the last four centuries. Most recently, he published a book detailing a history of education in the Miami Tribe. He is currently researching Myaamia landownership and the financial impacts of Indian removal.
