New in 2022: Membership + Program Update

Dear Members and Friends,
Thank you to all the Reily Township Historical Society members who sent in their 2021 membership renewals. Please renew your annual membership soon if you haven’t already. You will find the form below. If you are not a member, then please consider joining the Reily Township Historical Society. Membership dues and donor contributions help cover our annual expenses and make the organization what it is today.

Thank you to all the donors who made a financial contribution in honor of the late Michael Condo who passed away on October 15, 2021. Mike was the current president of the Reily Twp. Historical Society and held that position for almost six years. He was very enthusiastic about history, especially local history, Reily Township, Butler County and Franklin Co., Indiana. He will be missed. The board
of directors is trying to decide what is the best way to allocate the memorials.

Please review the program line up for the first half of 2022 and mark your calendars. We hope to see you there. Note that there will be no January program.

Thank you and Happy New Year,
Roger Koch
Treasurer

January-june 2022 program schedule

PUBLIC MEETINGS are the first Tuesday of each month (unless otherwise stated) at the Reily Township Community Center, 6093 Reily Millville Rd., Oxford, Ohio 45056.
The organization business meeting starts at 7PM and is followed by the pre-scheduled speaker or displays.

Tuesday, February 1, 2022 Mr. Dan Finfrock, retired educator and local historian from Hamilton, Ohio, will present; “The Street Cars of Hamilton”. Mr. Finfrock’s slide presentation will begin with Hamilton’s horse drawn street cars, circa 1850, and continue until the last electric streetcar was removed from city streets in the 1930’s. The more modern gas and diesel buses led to the
demise of the city street cars around the country.

Together we will explore Thomas Craven’s settlement in Oxford, Ohio, his time as a traveling minister in the area’s Baptist churches, his connection to the Wehr family, his affiliation with the Anti-Slavery Association and his connections
to well-known Underground Railroad Associates such as Harriett Beecher Stowe.

Tuesday, April 5, 2022 ”Show & Tell” Bring in your historic or ancestral documents, heirlooms,
photos and tell us their story. Perplexed by an item…let the members have a look and see if they can provide the story. Open to members and public.

Tuesday, May 3, 2022 ”Smith Library of Regional History” Brad Spurlock is the Smith History Library Manager in Oxford, Ohio. We welcome the new manager of Oxford’s Smith Library of Regional History. Brad will share news on services, holdings, displays and programs taking place at the history library. Reily Township and Oxford Township share historical figures by our close
geographic proximity, so the Smith History Library has been vital for preservation of some of our Reily Township records and artifacts. Enjoy meeting Brad.
